Cat’s® next generation mini excavators are designed to provide the best performance, versatility, safety, and operator convenience in the smallest packages possible for 1-to-2-ton class machines. New models include the 301.5 (1.5-ton class, standard tail swing with canopy), 301.7 CR (1.7-ton class, compact radius, with canopy), 301.8 (1.8-ton class, standard tail swing, with either canopy or cab), and 302 CR (2.0-ton class, compact radius, with either canopy or cab), which incorporate industry-first standard features like Stick Steer (joystick) steering, a tilt-up canopy or cab, air conditioning, and expandable undercarriages to provide the most comfortable operating experience.

Each of the new next generation mini hydraulic excavators is now equipped with an all-new hydraulic system to increase efficiency and fuel savings. The new load-sensing hydraulic system has an electronically controlled variable displacement piston pump capable of oil flows up to 17.4 gpm (66 L/min). These flow rates combined with high main-relief pressures give these machines the hydraulic capacity to generate high digging and lifting forces, as well as handle powered attachments. For additional versatility, the standard auxiliary hydraulic system (complete with disconnect lines) provides one way, two way, and continuous flows.

Operator Comfort and Safety

The Next Generation mini excavators emphasize the comfort, convenience, and safety of the operator. The cab, which is optional on the 301.8 and 302 CR, is pressurized and sealed to reduce dust intrusion and is fitted with a climate control system with optional air conditioning. For more visibility, operators can slide the front window upward and over their heads. The large glass areas on the sides and rear of the machines, along with the skylight, provide 360-degrees of visibility no matter the working conditions. Additional features include adjustable wrist rests, a suspension seat, and an optional, retractable, 3-inch-wide seat.

Intuitive controls can be preset to the operator’s preferred system of operation and the Next Generation LCD monitor provides easy-to-read machine information while on the job. Stick Steer (joystick) steering is an exclusive feature to the Next Generation mini excavators, which allows operators to switch from lever/foot-pedal steering controls to left-hand joystick control with standard, automatic two-speed travel.

Protective structures throughout the machine and hydraulic lockout protection for the controls promote a safe working environment for the operator. The easy-to-transport Next Generation models also include tie-down points on tracks frames to secure the machine when in motion.
